A Walk in the Park

This past weekend we went for a family drive to the City of Rocks National Reserve. Scott and I have been talking about going there for months, but for one reason or another, we just haven't.... until today.

Wow. I don't know what I was waiting for. It was so amazing and beautiful. Since it was kinda chilly, we didn't stay as long as we had hoped - I'll blame that one on the kids. We packed PB&J, some fruit and a bag of chips and had a little picnic dinner while we were there.

Scotty saw a bunny , and for the rest of the day kept saying "Ah bunny go?" He says "ah" for "where". It was pretty cute, the first 30 times he asked, then I just had Scott answer him... I know, I'm terrible!

Janey wasn't too impressed with the place. She didn't like the wind, or the rocky terrain, that when combined make for quite a challenge for a still wobbly one year old.

I didn't get a picture of these amazing rocks, so I stole this pic off the website with the explanation.

"The Twin Sisters in City of Rocks National Reserve are made up of different rocks. The darker sister is made of granite that is 2.5 billion years old and is some of the oldest rock in the Lower 48 states. The lighter sister is made of granite in a younger formation that is 25 million years old."

Twin Sisters formations

Now, those are some pretty cool rocks!!

This was on the way home... I just love the way the kids look at their Dad.
