I should have stuck to my original plan.
I got the kids bundled up and ready to ride in the van (which has no heat, but that is another post), Jane was lolly gagging, so I buckled Scotty up first. As I was snapping his last buckle, I heard the slamming of metal on the cement floor and then the scream. I hate that scream. That scream that tells you in an instant that your little baby is hurt, bad. I ran to where the scream came from, Scott's weight bench. She had pulled one of the 35lb weights off the holder and it had slammed her sweet little finger between it and the garage floor. The finger was spewing blood everywhere and she was screaming out of control.
I called Scott, he had be send him a picture of it. I guess he figured I was overreacting, but I knew I wasn't. I took her to an urgent care, and they send me to the ER. It turned out, she had hit right where the nail starts to grow, causing the nail to come off. She also cut her finger a bit on either side of the nail. By the time we left, Jane had 6 stitches (2 under the nail, 2 to hold the nail on and another 2 on the side of the nail) and we had one traumatized little girl.
On a side note, Scotty was such an angel! While I was waiting for Scott to join us at the ER, Scotty had to just hang out wherever we went. I couldn't believe how well behaved and obedient he was the whole time. What a sweet little boy I have!
Jane has been extra careful with her finger, usually keeping it tucked in her palm and only using her thumb and pointer finger when necessary. Whenever we take the bandage off to redress it, and she gets a chance to see it, she starts to cry again, poor little traumatized baby!!
